Softball Budget Superlatives:
The smallest softball budget for a team hosting a regional: I believe it is South Carolina, with a team budget of roughly $2.7 million.
The smallest softball budget for a power conference team earning an at-large bid: Virginia reported a softball budget just north of $2 million, with Cal barely ahead of them. I believe FAU, at $1.4 million, was the smallest budget for an at-large team.
The best/worst Bang for your Buck: I mean, on some level, the best bang for your buck might still be Oklahoma, right? Sure, their budget is nearly two million dollars more than anybody else in the field, but the Sooners have won four dang national titles in a row and came this close to winning a 5th. I wouldn’t fault anybody for looking at this list and picking Texas Tech either, although that team budget of under $4 million doesn’t include any million-dollar-pitchers.
Texas A&M, on the other hand, didn’t make it out of regional play, despite a budget of more than 4 million. Washington didn’t even get to host.
