Fans often don't want coaches to provide "coach speak", that doesn't really say anything. Many fans are criticial of coaches who say generic stuff, even if fans say "what do you expect." So when journalists do ask questions that MIGHT bring more than "coach speak", fans might call the journalist a jerk. I know Berman annoys people with either asking probing questions OR repeating the them in a different way. Some of the word of his questions may annoy. Asking what made Alabama that much better since they won 2 games against VT may or may not be a good way of asking it. We could answer the question with a "slip in the outfield" or Pete could be real and say "we likely should not have sent Bre Peck and by doing so lost a run". He did say the real answer that a 1-run loss doesn't really make the other team a better team; that team just found a way to win. A break here or there could have changed the conversation. It is actually an ok conversation to have because it is true. The problem is that these question are asked after a tough loss that really affects the season, either ending the season or in the case say in the women's basketball tournament loss that affected the potential to make the NCAA tournament, no one is really in the mindset to answer questions. Perhaps the solution is don't ask players and coaches to face the media after a season-ending loss. Askng D'Amour what is in his thoughts about next year is premature. It is a valid question, just like asking what changes or evolution needs to occur in the off-season to get over the hump. it is a valid question. We (including me) were posting about those exact same things Sunday and Today, right. All of these posts are already talking about transfer portals, getting Leggette in the lineup, what pitching needs to do to improve... So why is it ok for us to speculate, to critique, to say what we think needs to happen, but Berman can't? Time and situation. That is it. D'Amour is not thinking about next year. All he is thinking is that he just came from a locker of women who are likely crying, who are hurting, and who don't want to answer questions about what went wrong.
