When you're the visitor, you need to be up 8 at the END of the inning.
We were leading 11-1 in the middle of the 5th yesterday, but Cal got the opportunity to "catch up" in the bottom. They put up two runs to cut the lead to 8, but didn't get a third run that would cut the lead to 7 and force a 6th inning.
If you're the home team, the game ends if you're up by 8 after the visitor hits in the top of the 5th inning. The game also ends if you score enough runs in the bottom of the 5th or 6th to take an 8-run lead.
