Genuine question as someone who has used HS rankings/stats in my posts...

How translatable do those accolades tend to be at the college level? For example, here's an excerpt from Chip's post last summer about Maci Masters, who then hardly saw the field at VT this year and has already entered the transfer portal: "She won the Johnson City Press Player of the Year award for the THIRD consecutive year and led her team to the state runner-up finish. She was named first team All-State for the second consecutive year. She hit 17 home runs this season after setting a Tennessee state record with 25 home runs last year while batting .443 with 74 RBIs. For her career, Masters slugged 62 home runs to put her at No. 5 on the all-time national list, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations record book. Extra Innings Softball has her ranked #30 overall and the #9 third baseman. Her travel ball coach described her as “the epitome of power, an intimidating force in the batter’s box whose exit velocity is in the lower 90’s, and on the defensive side of the ball, she gives us cat-like reflexes flashing the leather on the Hot Corner with a throwing velocity in the 70’s coupled with a softball IQ in the top 99 percent." I ask this not to be critical of Nora or Charlotte (I've never seen them play in person and it's clear they're tearing it up on the field this year), and again, I've used HS content in my own posts when talking about players who end up coming to VT so I'm as guilty as anyone else in getting wrapped up in it. ** Edited by hokiehigh2000 at 5/30/2024, 2:10:26 PM
