Saw this with my daughter’s HS team

her senior year. They scored 22 runs against a much larger TN school at the first of the year, and I joked with our coach “I hope we didn’t use up all of our hits in this one game”. Well turns out we just about did. My point being, softball (and baseball) is a weird, streaky game. And offense is as much about confidence as anything else. If you get caught up in a team slump, it truly is hard to snap out of it. And those end of year slumps are the hardest.
