The SEC doesn’t want to give up their Conference Championship Game yet, mainly because they can have a team get thumped in that game and still get in. Close that loop hole that mainly exists for them in the selection committee, and they will be more ready to expand.
Again, Petitti don’t be a Patootie, get 16 Playoff now and 24 latter.

Expanding beyond 4 was done as a money grab, so additional playoff teams means more money to be grabbed.

My old school playoff preference is 8 teams - champions of the ACC, BIG, SEC, Big 12, highest ranked champion of the P6, and 3 at large. That boat has sunk however.

It’s not like everyone plays same number of games anyway.
Some schools play CCG games and some don’t. BYU didn’t make a playoff thanks to B12 CG game while other schools got in without playing 13th game.

Actually it might just be you, because the B1G will vote for it if it guarantees it will go to 24. So the point is since all the commissioners want it, pass 16 and work to pass 24 later.
PS Miami almost didn't make the playoff and ND didn't make it, they both deserved to be in it and 16 will fix that.

Personally, I think the sports industry tend to produces way too many games in order to maximize profit, far beyond the optimal number from a fan's perspective.
The NCAA tournament should stop at 64 teams. The World Cup soccer should go back to 32.
I'm not sure about college football, but I'm completely fine with the 12-team playoff.

NCAA BB is already too big, and the world cup is too. 32 was perfect. Women's world cup definitely is too big. 16 is too big for that one.

now and has been for decades. I don't necessarily like it, but I have adapted to it, and try to play the situation in front of me. The expansion has made it so the playoff is no longer the SEC replay show, and that I am very happy about. Now we need to do a little more so even more schools have a chance to make the playoff.

conference championships, and having an 8 team play in "playoff" to determine the 2 schools invited to a 16 team playoff. Maybe a 4 team playoff if they only get one entry.
Let the G6 retain the media rights to those games, and pay players on those teams for performance in the post season.
Is that fair? Of course not, but the G6 is behind the 8 ball, and if they don't find money, and fast, many athletic programs will suffer.

I stand by my view that if you cap win your conference under whatever criteria it has established, you have no business competing for a national title.

The media dollars have made this a "national" sport, not a regional conference sport it was in the past (that ship has sailed).
If you can't play the big boys in the regular season, then the playoffs is the only equalizer available. Polling and sos is way too subjective. The more access, the better IMO.

Therefore, they use the SEC (ND also supports this it seems) to kill the 24 plan. I do not want 24, but I want ESPn to have less power in the game.

it comes up for bids again. I think we need to test 16 before we automatically go to 24. That's why Petitti needs to stop acting like a Patootie and get 16 done. Incremental progress is better than no progress.
