If they staged a 24-team playoff, 19 of the teams would be P2.

Maybe, but so what? Without an opportunity to beat
those P2 teams in the playoffs, we may as well be the G8.

Hate to break this to you - "we" are the G8.
And it's been that way since the implosion of the PAC-12. Neither the ACC nor the Big 12 have any bearing nationally anymore. I predict that the ACC will not last much longer, which will give way to the era of the P2, one "best of the rest" conference in the Big 12 that will receive token accommodations from the P2 to get them to bend the knee, and then everybody else, who will be treated like dirt and have access to only 1-2 CFP slots. It's over.

from where I'm sitting, it's no different than the
70's and 80's. Still the same brands making most of the money, with monopolies on the top bowls, playing meager OOC schedules. The only difference today is the consolidation of the brands in the P2. NIL is just a legalized "80's model. The transfer portal is the big difference here. Attach credit hours and graduation to the transfer portal, and the problem is fixed. Then recruits look at schools differently, and can not transfer on a whim. The idea that the B12 leftovers, most of the ACC, and the mid to low level BIG and SEC schools will ever compete with blue blood money is just plain silly. VT doesn't have a problem with Ohio State making the big bucks, they have a problem with the Rutgers of the world getting more money than them. it's time to end the doom and gloom hoping that some other entity will fix things for the B12 or most of the ACC. It's time to put on your big boy pants, get a coach, recruit a dedicated quarterback, and make the playoffs.

Fox writes about 24 team playoff to help B1G.
Remember the Fox is part owner of B1GN. 24 team playoff is Petitti's idea as a way to get Fox more CFB inventory, drive more media $$ to B1G.

Always thought it was weird Fox didn’t try to split th playoffs, regretting
it now that they see the numbers coming in on it. That and apparently the SEC and B1G are back to competing instead of cooperating. I think the SEC thought they would continue to win the Nattys, but two in a row by the B1G has to hurt the SEC’s ego some. So for now, the gloves are off!!

24 games is ridiculous. First Fox puppet Petitti brought this up
w/o traction. Now Fox is going direct to us. Sorry Fox. You should have bid higher.

If I pay you $20M if we go to 24 teams, are you okay with it?

$20M per team for each game in the first two rounds, or...
$20M in the teams in the first round, $25M in the second round, $30M in the 3rd, and so on...

I was saying 20M to him personally if they went to 24, many are against
something, unless it puts a huge amount of money in their own pocket. However, your question is the more relevant one, if we go to 24, what will it do for the participating schools?

No as will be less regular season revenue
24 teams means the regular season will be diminished. Less fans will attend the games thus less gate and concessions revenue. Also, less fans will watch the regular season. That means less media revenue. So it would be diminishing returns from the bump up from 24 teams. I do like the same automatic qualifiers though for all conferences. I see the Big 12 and ACC vote yes, Big 10 (Fox) yes, SEC no.

More teams in the hunt
for a playoff spot in November. I think it enhances the regular season. SOS still exists, so OOC games will continue to be important. Go to 24

Yeah, I can see this. Overall, still a watered-down regular season
which sucks. 4 loss Big 10 and SEC teams in the playoffs. Not good.

Na, it's the 3 loss teams that will make it from
the BIG and SEC. Gives a much better chance for 2 loss ACC and B12 teams, and gives better access to the G6.

Admittedly 24 is a lot, but the money they will make, will be a lot too, so
far there has been no stopping the 💴 🚊

I really hate byes. I wish 8 or 16 was the magic number.

8 should have been the number
But 12 was the number they went with to appease the B1G and SEC. Since the number is 12 now, it will never go back down, only up.

You can't put the lid back on the playoff thing. Since we
now have playoffs, I think we should go to 24. I also this that if we go to 24, then we add another top conference champion, giving the now G5 two entries. I see it as a way to keep the power conference structure in play, and besides the current media contracts, there would be no reason for any school to leave the ACC, or any other conference. Add in a hard cap, and a hard minimum on player pay, the riff raff would leave, and you would be left with schools willing to invest in their programs and facilities. A hard minimum would knock out a good portion of the MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt. I also thing that schools and conferences should get paid in the playoffs like the basketball tournament - maybe in units. None of this guaranteed playoff money. The BIG of course would not go for this, but the SEC would.
