ACC Teams Ranked in the Top 12 in 2nd-to-last AP Poll ...
Slow day at the office, so here is my research below FWIW. Most years in the 21st century, current ACC schools should expect 2 playoff teams on average (1.7 rounded up to 2). Of the 24 years, just going by the AP top 12 (or highest ranked champ), you would have 12 years of one bid, 8 years of 2 bids, 3 years of 3 bids and one year of 4 bids. And then below shows the schools in the top 15 (not top 12 below, just to see how many were close) and total in the top 25. Stanford had lots of good teams - sleeping giant now. 2000: 3 in top 15 (all top 6), and 5 in top 25. 2001: 3 in top 15, and 6 in top 25 2002: 1 (#1) in top 15, and 4 in top 25. 2003: 2, 2 2004: 4, 8 2005: 3, 7 2006:3, 5 2007:3, 4 2008:1, 3 2009:3, 5 2010:2, 3 2011:2, 4 2012:3, 4 2013:3,5 2014:2, 4 2015:4,4 2016:3, 6 2017:3, 4 2018: 1, 2 2019:1, 1 2020: 2, 4 2021: 1, 5 2022: 2, 3 2023: 1, 4
