The ACC getting poached would be a problem, but we got options.

New ND AD Pete Bevacqua just said this in an article that came out yesterday:
âI feel better about our independence sitting here right now than I felt even when I first came into the role,â said Bevacqua, who spent eight months shadowing Swarbrick before the official handoff. âIndependence is part of the DNA of Notre Dame football. I believe that vehemently.â
I do not think that the Big Ten is going to "get" ND any time soon.

Most "prognosticators" are schlepps like me anyway.
Just guys on the internet.
(Genetics, Flug, The Dude, etc..)
Why do we give everweight to what they say?
Some are just crisis generators that favor whatever conference they like.
They mostly search for clicks, not reality.

are told what people want them to hear for a reason, so they will spread it. Sometimes it is accurate but, lots of times it has other motives.

exactly right. With the playoff expansion and the revenue formula ND has never had a more viable path or better money set up to maintain its independence.

ND isn't going anywhere unless the ACC implodes.
Then, you may see ND put its other sports in the Big East and cut a scheduling deal with the Big Ten.

It's good to see someone address "the other sports" concerning ND. Because the Irish are not joining any conference for all sports at this juncture.
One would hope the ACC isn't stupid enough to let ND football go while letting them participate in all other sports.

Although I have had some confusion with different people about the ACC GoR and ND football. ND football is not a member of the ACC and so they are free to leave. It's all other sports that carry that exit fee. At least that is what I have gathered from ESPN reports. Being intertwined in all sports with the ACC is a little more complicated in terms of the legal ramifications despite ND having their name on the same GoR that every other member has signed.
But there can be no discussion of where ND goes without discussing all sports. I believe ND has a home for all sports at the Big East. It's no coincidence NBC just signed a deal to televise Big East hoops games. ND football can get a guaranteed partial B1G schedule (possibly SEC as well) for the right price. Obviously, ND because of its following has many options as always, but joining a P2 in all sports but football is not one of them thankfully.
The ND old guard still wants football Independence. I don't see them budging until forced to do so down the road when money and better CFP inclusion does the talking.

That means you are going to love the fireworks about to come. Let the chaos begin.
The ESPN Composition Clause isn't in everyone's best interest.

That is an urban myth of forty years running.
Several "old guard" generations have come and gone since then.

they will just leave the ACC, but create another semi-independent arrangement with two other conferences splitting what they have with the ACC? So maybe a Big East for Olympic Sports, and the B1G or SEC for 5 football games?

Maybe a four game scheduling deal with both the SEC and Big Ten.

with expansion, and likely more expansion coming. I think it will be a lot harder for ND to just pick up games with teams in the P2 than it has been in the past, especially if they go to a 9 game Conference Schedule. I think the SEC and B1G teams may want the other 3 to not be so difficult, but I guess we will see soon enough what they are thinking.

if they wish to stay Independent for football. ACC or Big East.
ACC requires them to play out X amount of football games. Big East not.
I'm very certain the P2 will not provide that option for all sports but football.

they play ND in football at all if they are independent? If they do, how many games? They have a lot of games to play with the current 16 and 18 team conference, with many thinking both will expand. This is going to be quite a challenge scheduling all of these teams just in the conference. TerryD thinks no problem scheduling ND for the P2, and he may be right, but with further expansion it definitely becomes more difficult to just throw Notre Dame on the schedule. Just a new challenge to think about.

That is the same campfire talk I got over Memorial Day Weekend from one of the NBC Sports Executives who I have known since high school. Doesn't mean it's going to happen. And you are also correct, he didn't know either. hehe. But that is what the networks desire it seems. The networks (NBC/FOX/CBS) are in approval should we say. It's Notre Dame.
I am speculating (like everyone else) that the B1G wants a schedule deal with ND. The two have talked about this for a while. Again (repeat stuff), ND is not ready to give up football Independence. The ideal situation for the Irish would be to join the B1G with the same deal they have with the ACC. All sports, but only X amount of contracted league games in football. ND won't get that deal from the P2.
So in essence, ND has only ONE option where they can set up X amount of contracted football games with the B1G. And that would be to join the Big East in all other sports. Don't need a source to deduce this simple logic.

itâs against NCAA bylaws (although the NCAA has been losing court case after court case). A school can only be an associate member of a conference for a specific sport if that sport is not offered by the conference that they are a full member of. For instance, Army and Navy are associate members of the AAC in football and Hawaii is an associate member of the MWC in football because the Patriot League and Big West do not sponsor FBS football. ND could become an associate P2 member and park their other sports in the Big East since they donât sponsor football, but they canât do that with the ACC.

A lot of fans in the ACC seem to have a disdain for ND, but I think it is because ND could have/can step up, become a full member, and save the conference - and ND want's nothing to do with it.
I would bet that even the ones on this board that do not like the set up with ND, will not give up their tickets when ND visits LANE, or will go to South Bend to support the Hokies.
If you look at the contract ND got for their home games, the games the ACC get on their schedule have enough value to make the arrangement worth it, but it's not enough to put the ACC close to the P2.
Those that write that the B12 can have them are making a mistake. I will say however, the Big East is a better spot for them, but money talks.

is a basketball first conference and never got the tough scheduling for football thing. ESPN grew tired of it and they threw their weight behind the SEC. It wasn't that way at first when the ACC expanded, but ironically even FSU and Clemson wanted an easy regular season schedule and it bit the whole conference.

Maybe if they separate basketball rights from football, but even then, we know the money is in football.

Adding Gonzaga is second rate. Glad the BigXII didn't bite on that one.

FSU was whining, there was no litigation.
I don't think anyone saw the PAC dissolving, and just what a game changer that would be. I thought the basketball angle was where the B12 was headed, with football money just enough to field competitive teams. I also thought the expansion of the playoffs with 6 auto's would be an equalizer, but we now have 5 auto's and "guaranteed" money - which is bull ****, and all but guaranteed that there would not be an equalizer moving forward.
I know the speculation is out there to add ACC members to the B12, but like the PAC, college football needs the ACC to remain intact, and to be competitive. Things are changing fast, but if yet another auto is taken away from the expanded playoffs, the opportunities diminish for 90% of FBS.
