I am far more annoyed by the talk of AQs to non-champs than I am by the
SEC champ and B1G champ getting the 2 byes.
If they want to appease everyone, make it a 13-team CFP and give one additional bye to the best champion (ACC, Big XII or G5). Would be fine. Auto bids to 2 more champions. 8 at-large.
But guaranteed multiple slots to any conference (including the rumored 2 to the ACC) is just bogus.
As much as I hate the size and makeup of the incoming SEC and B1G, there is no doubt that they are LOADED, and winning either of those conferences will be a huge on the field accomplishment that warrants respect.

I haven't seen a positive reaction to the multiple AQ bids yet, so if it was a temperature check, they got their answer. 14 teams with 2 byes and 5 AQs sets up well for them- most years the top 2 champs will be from the P2, and they'll rack up on at-large bids.

much subjectivity built into the system already. Take the AQ, and let the chips fall where they may. We saw last year what happens when a deserving conference champion gets left out of the playoffs because of a subjective analysis.
The only way to get around this is to have all FBS champions get an AQ, and set it up like the FCS playoffs. I know, you don't like that either.
So we go back to the polls, and teams never get a chance to play for the title? That is how we got the blue bloods to begin with.

Otherwise, there is no way those 2 conferences will regularly get 2 teams into the playoffs. The SEC and BIG just have too much clout with the committee.

1v4 and 2v3 on championship weekend, and the winners get into the CFP. Those games would get WATCHED like playoffs (which they would be, really).

With there still being at-large spots available outside the 2 or 3 AQs per conference, any additional game between two conference opponents results in an additional loss for a conference team, further decreasing that league’s chances of getting one of the at-large spots. Some team in another conference (or Notre Dame) would slide into that spot by not even playing that weekend.
Now if there were no at large spots available 🤔….

and SEC expand to 20, and the ACC is a completely different conference than it is today.
The P@ will continue to have teams to beat outside their conference for the claim of a national champion. That means the ACC/B12, or whatever is left, will be included in the post season.

Since it currently expands from Orlando to Provo, they could add more on both coasts (Wazzou, Oregon State, and whatever remnants are available if the ACC implodes) and just divide it into two sub-conferences - East and West. The champion from each gets an AQ to the playoffs.

I just don't like it in principle.
But yeah, two guaranteed spots is a sweet deal for the ACC and BigXII. In fact, if the new realignment was in place and we had a 14-team, 5-7 model, the current ACC (FSU) and the current BigXII (Arizona) would have only had one team in.

on the way to the bank with the 2 AQs. But the SEC and Big 10 dropped their 4 AQ request to 3, then snuck in the automatic 1st round bye requirement. The latter is not going to fly. Let's see what comes out this week.

and At-Large for others. Saying that, coming around to more AQ spots as almost impossible for the committee to figure out who is better. Plus, SEC and Big 10 are going to stack the deck and limit scheduling the ACC and Big 12 to avoid a potential loss and resume comparison point. Then, they will lobby at end of the year that the ACC and Big 12 strength of schedule is crap.
