Why do only football & basketball players have to be treated as employees?

NLRB is targeting the 2 sports that make the most money for the colleges.
If schools are required to treat the athletes in those 2 sports as "employees," then it will open the door for people to eventually ask questions about the other sports. At some point in the future someone will ask a question that is based on Title IX especially if the endgame is for schools to treat all student-athletes as employees. Since that endgame can't be obtained right away, like with a lot of things in this world (i.e. the evolution of the Civil Rights amendments in this country and other similar laws/policies over the years), it has to be achieved in steps or phases. This just happens to be the first step in the process.

Regulators shouldn't be trying to decide this issue
Whether college athletes are employees is not something expressly covered by the NLRA. It's a political issue that should be decided by Congress. Congress is responsible for making laws, not non-elected bureaucrats.

NLRB only has authority over privates
Entities. I am curious about this from an ND prospective. Could be a way for them to make an end around run to public universities.

Wow the PAC literally has nothing good going for it right now
Will be interesting to see how this case plays out as it could impact the rest of the country and the sport.

If the NLRB prevails against the PAC 12, it would effectively mean all D1
football and basketball players would be considered employees who could unionize.

It would also open the door for people to ask questions about the other
sports too. Potentially that could be a bigger deal to everyone than allowing football and basketball players to unionize.

The PAC 10/12 was a solid conference not all that long ago...sad to see it
slowly crumble.
