Who was your fantasy girl in HS
For 50 years, Virginia Tech dreamed of, flirted with, was rejected by, and teased by the ACC. I always said 2004 was the year, hell froze over.So to go, why didn't we leave for the SEC. We have our fantasy date, until she can't pay the bills. Then her looks don't matter. She is dead weight. The drop her for another girl, sounds so simple. But it is not.

It was just naturally where we always should have been. Geographically and philosophically we have always been an ACC school and likely always will be. Frankly, if the proposed Eastern League had ever materialized with Notre Dame, PSU, Miami, Louisville, WV, Pitt, etc., we still would have been a better fit in the ACC.

Had less to do with our "love" for the ACC, and more for our devotion to
UVa. UVa got us in to the ACC. Had we left without them, we'd be damaging their existing conference. The in-state politics that got us in to the ACC would likely prevent us from leaving the ACC. This is why Maryland got out, but we didn't.

Those things were positives, but the connections that got is into the ACC
made it a nonstarter to leave.
