Adding members is the only way to alter the current financials, and the only programs that have value and are able to move are in the Pac 12-2. The Pac schools are culturally similar to the ACC in that they still think academics matter. But the Pac schools are in a precarious position, and perhaps can be had for less than a full revenue share for a few years. The ACC is sitting at 14 programs. If it added Washington, Oregon, Utah, Arizona State, Stanford and either Arizona or Colorado, it would get to 20 football members and 21 overall, open a west coast window and gain enough programs that add value (or at least don't detract from it) so as to maybe provide a little leverage for more cash from ESPN. Oregon State and Washington State will get left out and go to the MWC, and the Arizona/Colorado loser can probably find a home in the Big 12. California can do whatever it can; it's a financial and cultural disaster; i.e., Rutgers with a better academic reputation. With 21 members for basketball (and some other sports), the league can have a round-robin 20-game schedule where every member plays everyone else once, and rotates the home games from year to year. With 20 football members, you create four 5-team pods and play a 9-game schedule - the four others in your pod annually and all five of one of the remaining pods, with that pod rotating from year to year so that everyone plays everyone else at least once every three years and gets a home game against everyone else at least once every six years. Whether you establish standing in a single division or multiple divisions does not matter much. Ultimately, this is just a temporary solution.
