Texas is one of the most well funded and competitively advantaged athletic departments in the country. Texas has an unbelievable amount of arrogance and resources, and I can assuredly state they were not worried about being ready. Sure, they have underperformed recently, but it's no different than every other school that goes through periods of ups and downs. Look at how Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Auburn have fluctuated the past 30 years. Texas will be just fine, and they are positioning themselves for the future. Admittedly, Texas leaving the B12 does indicate they are willing to give up a ton of control for a more secured future, as they can't run the SEC as if it is their own conference. UNC is in a similar position, meaning if they join the Big10 or SEC they will do just fine, but they won't be the "flagship" university in the conference anymore. Disregarding GOR issues, if UNC joined the SEC, similarly to Va Tech or UVA joining... each school would likely see a big financial windfall and a pickup in recruiting.
