Allow me to suggest a killer reason for The SEC to add UNC/UVa.

The B1G wants UNC/UVa because of their academic reputations. They want to use those two to get a foot in the door for a southern branch of The B1G to include Ga Tech for sure, and likely a Florida school. They might be persuaded to include Duke if UNC/UVa insisted. If The SEC grabs UNC/UVa before The B1G gets them it nullifies The B1G's plan for a southern move. The SEC would then have no necessity to protect the southern monopoly from the B1G. It would give them two new states and two prestigious universities and would save them the expense of procuring other southern properties.
