Question about Rutgers and Maryland and their πΊ value to the Big Ten.
Obviously neither was added for their football pedigree. But what is their real value to the Big Ten?
Where can the B1G collect cable/satellite carriage fees for these two?
WRT Rutgers, I've heard people say that "Rutgers brings New York". Do they mean NYC or NY State? Does the BTN collect carriage fees for the entire state of NY because of Rutgers? Other than carriage fees, is Rutgers of any TV value at all to the B1G? When I look at viewership by team data, Rutgers barely shows up.
Same question about UMd. Does the BTN charge carriage fees in Virginia? If so, do they get it throughout the entire state of VA, or just in Northern VA outside of DC? Either way, does this make "getting into Virginia" to take UVa or VT less of a priority for the B10?
And one more question about NY. Would it have been better for the B1G to have taken Syracuse rather than Rutgers? Syracuse way better in football and a near blue blood in basketball. And, they have somewhat of a following. I live in PA, and I have never met a Rutgers fan. I have met some Rutgers alums, but they don't follow football. Where I do find Syracuse fans around.

In order for the carriage-fee model to work, don't you need demand too?
