Post: #1NBC Pushing for Big Ten/NFL Primetime Pairing in Media Rights Deal

“The Big Ten would have exposure in every TV home,” said one source to Front Office Sports. “It would also be a smart idea to follow the model of the most successful sports league in America.” Big Ten media rights negotiations are getting closer to being completed. The results could mean a minimum of $1.25 billion annual distribution for the conference’s soon-to-be sixteen members. One of the bidders in the process, NBC, has an interesting idea to make the Big Ten the “NFL of college football conferences.” NBC has reportedly pushed the idea of combining Big Ten broadcasts with its existing Notre Dame coverage and would feature the Big Ten in its primetime window. With CBS, ESPN/ABC also bidding on coverage packages, such a series of deals would make the Big Ten the only college football conference that would be seen across all of the American broadcast networks. Something only few entities have done, like the NFL. NBC is also pushing the allure of having primetime Big Ten football on Saturday night and primetime coverage of Sunday’s only NFL evening game with Sunday Night Football.

So this is the rumor flavor......
2hhoop3 08/04/22 06:46 AM ET
Think so. $1.25B is $78 per school among 16 schools
hokieZ71 08/04/22 07:24 AM ET
The $100M is total payout, not just tv. **
Colonel Jessup 08/04/22 02:22 PM ET
They aren’t getting the $1.6B deal they need for $100M/school
hokieZ71 08/04/22 07:13 AM ET
Big Ten - The “NFL of college football conferences.”
Old Line Hokie 08/04/22 12:16 AM ET
They don't need to understand football fans
HokieAl 08/04/22 08:51 AM ET
ND hasn't made a single move since 2012
TerryD 08/04/22 08:40 AM ET
Notre Dame football has by far the biggest ego in college sports.
Old Line Hokie 08/04/22 11:00 AM ET
That's not ego, it's just good business
HokieAl 08/04/22 11:14 AM ET
Ego’s that idiot/crook Swofford destroying the BE then trying to steal PSU.
BBBDatVT_ 08/04/22 04:03 PM ET
Notre Dame has their own network deal. No different than Texas....
Old Line Hokie 08/04/22 02:05 PM ET
You'll have to accept some posters are just mad right now
hokieZ71 08/04/22 10:13 AM ET
I want things to stay exactly as they were in 2013
TerryD 08/04/22 11:32 AM ET
I'm not mad or even upset. It's just football.
Old Line Hokie 08/04/22 10:50 AM ET
Here's something that TV executives ignore...
ren_hoek 08/04/22 07:20 AM ET
That is Clemson only, not the ACC
VaTechie 08/04/22 09:18 AM ET
How has the SEC performed sans Alabama? **
133743Hokie 08/05/22 04:15 PM ET
With Georgia......
2hhoop3 08/05/22 05:22 PM ET
agree, but the B1G only had OSU in the CFP until last year
ren_hoek 08/04/22 12:14 PM ET
The ACC has been the second most successful CFP conference.
Truthahn 08/04/22 02:25 PM ET
We need someone who can negotiate a contract. These crooks suck. **
BBBDatVT_ 08/04/22 04:04 PM ET
MSU has also made it, but got hammered. I'd also say that aside from
reestuart 08/04/22 12:50 PM ET
fair enough. If VT, Miami, and FSU get well, the perception will be better
ren_hoek 08/04/22 02:03 PM ET
that would certainly help. I think the ACC's big issue is numbers, though.
reestuart 08/04/22 05:56 PM ET
Couldn't the .....
2hhoop3 08/04/22 11:46 AM ET
tv ratings don't say that.
reestuart 08/04/22 12:51 PM ET
Discussion.......
2hhoop3 08/04/22 05:51 PM ET
yeah, that's just Clemson, and they don't exactly kill it ratings-wise.**
reestuart 08/04/22 09:38 AM ET
Clemson does just fine. They draw as many eyeballs as anyone. **
BBBDatVT_ 08/04/22 04:06 PM ET
not really true. Like you say, they do fine, but they are a step below
reestuart 08/04/22 05:57 PM ET
They haven't had a single regular season game in the top 15 from 2015-2019
reestuart 08/04/22 06:16 PM ET
They’re not paying by the win, paying by the viewer.
BBBDatVT_ 08/04/22 08:56 AM ET
just goes to show you that number of fans is more important than anything
reestuart 08/04/22 09:42 AM ET
They get pretty decent numbers actually.
hokieZ71 08/04/22 10:34 AM ET
Millions away? Very doubtful **
VaTechHokiesACC 08/04/22 03:34 AM ET
yeah, people aren't going to stop watching as long as it's on TV.
reestuart 08/04/22 11:24 AM ET
It is a bit of a train wreck. But what to do?
