This expansion feels very different than 2003 to me, and I'm less concerned

In 2003, VT was going to undeservedly get screwed. People behind the scenes (hello, U of Miami) were working a deal that ignored all VT could bring to the ACC, for their own benefit. VT had wanted to be in the ACC for decades. We were right in its footprint. Until things worked out for the good guys, it seemed terribly unjust that VT wouldn't be asked to join the ACC. While the impact of VT being left out of whatever tiered structure develops today may ultimately have as much or greater impact than in 2003, I'm not sure I like what college football is becoming nor the cost it will extract to be part of it. I admit I have no idea what being left out might do to Olympic sports. That said, I'm not sure that being "division II" isn't actually a more agreeable existence for the VT I know. Maybe I am ignorant. I just can't get worked up about this current situation, and will watch what happens and hope for the best.

Doormat in the P2 or relevant on the outside which would you choose?

2003 was a watershed moment...I don't know what this is.

seeing rumblings that Big Ten/SEC are talking about an 8 team playoff
vtce2000 07/05/22 01:38 PM ET
We're not playing in the championship anyway so why does it matter? **

If that happens, then the G8 will need their own playoff and/or bowl season**

Which leads back to my original post... is this a bad thing for us?

Truth. NIL did it for me. Conference money just an add-on.**
HokieDelNorte 07/05/22 12:23 PM ET
i agree, and its not a sustainable fight to keep up, IMO**
VaPoly07 07/05/22 12:09 PM ET
I have similar feelings, but I fear VT not being in a tier 1 TV Alliance

Sports conference affiliation doesn't have any impact on the academic side **

We will agree to disagree, when Virginia Tech joined Big East football
Stech 07/05/22 02:43 PM ET
I dunno; do you think it is impossible to get those things in Tier 2?
WestyHokie 07/05/22 12:28 PM ET
I think VT, along with the Big 12 and PAC-10 are relegated to Tier 2

We have to hope that VT leadership is NOT OK with VT being left in one of

In the ACC yes, but expansion by the P2 isn’t over, 14th ranked population
Stech 07/05/22 10:49 AM ET
I agree with this. I could see the SEC locking down the southeast.....
VTejrep 07/05/22 04:52 PM ET
This is an optimistic take, which I do not share
VT ChemE 1986 07/05/22 12:08 PM ET
Right now, they’re not leaving, but if the SEC wants 4 and the B1G wants 4,

Quoting state population only matters for conference network
Colonel Jessup 07/05/22 11:52 AM ET
Give the state some credit. ;) 12th ranked in population...
Old Line Hokie 07/05/22 11:00 AM ET
Hey I got it from Chris Coleman’s post on recruiting, but I’ll take 12th. **
Stech 07/05/22 01:25 PM ET
Most of the B1G states have stagnant population growth or are even losing
