Has television ruined everything?

Before cable, ND dominated television. With the expansion of cable and internet, television(or video) access to sports has vastly expanded, as well as the money. It will never happen, but I wonder if it would be better if Congress created a law limiting federal recognized tax exempt institutions from allowing commercial entities to televise events or something like that.
