Why in the world would land grant have anything to do with this?

It's SPORTS. Of course VT is a different academic institution from Stanford because it's a public land grant, but that has nothing to do with conference affiliation. Talk about apples and orangutans. Or maybe you can connect those dots for me? But you go on believing that Sands and the Stanford and Cal presidents will now hang out in their smoking jackets sipping branding in the ACC executive library discussing new joint research centers because they now play football semi-regularly.
