I agree. I reject "Academics" and "Home" as reasons for staying in the ACC.

I'd always have felt we'd be more "at home" in the SEC. But I am in the minority I guess. Our entry to the ACC has impacted our ability to leave. That is all. WRT the ever changing nature of "realignment", I agree with you again. I think most of felt that if the ACC imploded that we'd "have a landing spot" in the SEC or a stout Big XII that included Oklahoma and Texas. That's changed now. I've said on numerous posts earlier that the only LOCK in the ACC for a nice landing spot is UNC. UVa is like a poor man's Stanford, and look where Stanford is right now. Tech is kinda like a poor man's Oregon. And look where Oregon is right now. Clemson and FSU are not locks to be taken by the SEC either. The SEC already has a boatload of those types of schools, and they really don't NEED two more. Now I don't want to be all doom and gloom. Do I think a good many ACC teams will have a good chance at making the P2? Yes. But no one (save UNC) should be resting in it. And the whole thing will be based on the whims of the SEC and B1G brass. Merit won't guarantee a thing. Lastly, the UT/OU to SEC move was a game changer that was far worse IMO for college football than some of this other stuff like NIL, transfer portals, and CFP playoff expansion that we are talking about currently. A unilateral decision by the SEC followed by a unilateral decision by the B1G basically dropped 18 proud programs to second tier status without a single game on the field having anything to say about it. UCLA hasn't won the Pac-10/12 this century. In that same time period, the teams most discussed as being the first left behind by the B1G (UW, UO, Stanford) have won or shared the title 14 times. That, is a problem. Even retched Cal (who the talking heads should drop football or join join the MWC), has had a share of the title once in that time period. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 7/28/2022, 11:38:17 PM

Are you kidding me? .....It makes too much sense to happen.**
DeputyD 07/29/22 09:21 AM ET
I actually do feel the B1G, SEC, ESPN, and Fox are gonna make things happen
BBBDatVT 07/29/22 10:23 AM ET
They don't see anything past "more money now"! They are all arrogant enough

I don’t know about all this realignment business, but your SEC East

Interesting. Arizona State should be in that group....

i think the drawing board comes out and B1G, SEC, ESPN, and Fox go to work.

The ideal for college football is relegation and promotion system
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 05:48 PM ET
Can't happen when 25% of the roster turns over every year, much of it

Teams that reload, succeed. Those that are a flash in the pan, don't.**

How do you know they've reloaded before the next season starts. Relegation

You don't know until they play. Those at the bottom are relegated for the

So, we're back to Ground Zero. Only a handful of teams compete.
BBBDatVT 07/28/22 06:36 PM ET
What makes you think VT is entitled to be in the Top Tier every year?
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 06:42 PM ET
Well, the EPL is almost cast system. Promotion does very little to change
BNOMO 07/28/22 06:52 PM ET
Fair points. But IMO, R-P gives longstanding teams the chance to compete

It is probably too late to try to implement rules now that the horse has

VT is certainly a top 40 producer. That's why.
BBBDatVT 07/28/22 06:45 PM ET
The Top Tier of a R-P system wouldn't be 40 teams. Much less.
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 06:59 PM ET
Yep. You're hardly dealing with the same teams from year to year in college**
BBBDatVT 07/28/22 06:29 PM ET
There's a ton of turnover on a professional roster over a four year span.
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 06:34 PM ET
Not 100% though. Its undoable due to the nature and makeup of college trams

That ain't happening in bigtime American sports. Even MLS hasn't adopted it**

MLS actually has a two tiered set of developmental leagues

If it evolves into a legit R-P system, that would be great.
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 07:03 PM ET
I think there's a very good chance something similar to my graphic works.

I never said R-P would be adopted. But if the SEC is REALLY about
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 06:31 PM ET
If it hasn't happened already, the B1G and SEC are gonna work together.
BBBDatVT 07/28/22 06:42 PM ET
You think way too highly of SEC and B1G leadership.
Maroon Baboon 07/28/22 07:07 PM ET
They gotta keep college sports relevant in major parts of the country.
BBBDatVT 07/29/22 02:31 AM ET
I have followed conference realignment since the Metro days in the 70's..
