I think your mind is in a different place than mine here.

Let's just set aside your "back of the envelope math." We're talking about a scenario where the best football programs leave the ACC, and what ND would do in that case - do you really think ND is still going to get a $20M payout from the ACC for its non-revs in that scenario? Where's that money going to come from? I think the group of you that think everything is going to be sunshine and rainbows for the ACC need to peek in literally anywhere that the commentariat doesn't have a vested interest in praying night and day for the conference's continued relevance. It's not a good prognosis. We are in the "latter days of the old Big East" phase right now, today, where the only glue holding the conference together is the threat of litigation. The conference has already started taking on schools that don't help the overall football/basketball brand, don't add any real, actual value (get mad all you want at this statement, the only reason the ACC got any extra money from Disney for SMU and CalFord was entirely contractual,) and make no real sense. The brands that create all the football value are clearly unhappy, have no real interest in retaining conference membership except monetary penalties, and would do pretty much anything to get out tomorrow if they could. By 2029-2030, the road blocks currently keeping anyone from leaving become pretty much nominal, which just coincidentally also happens to coincide with media rights negotiations for other conferences. We're literally just sitting around waiting for the final domino to fall here. And, let me just be clear: I'm not implying that VT is the golden goose of the ACC. VT can spend money, VT can compete if it actually tries, and people will watch VT when they're good. But, I do have a pretty good bead on what VT's actual value is, and the current iteration of the ACC is not compatible. As I've said on here for some time now, I don't think the major football brands in the ACC are P2 bound, at least not most of them. I think there's going to be a consolidation of certain football brands that makes monetary and geographic sense in a new conference. ** Edited by Baltimore_Hokie at 5/14/2026, 10:35:50 AM
