Given that Northern Illinois already knew it wouldn't be allowed to remain

in the MAC as a non-football member, I would think full membership with the MWC would have come up at some point during the negotiations. Plus, it is likely there are some sports that Northern Illinois currently sponsors that the MWC doesn't sponsor at this time, so Northern Illinois would need to find a new home for them assuming they are currently not sponsored by the MAC. If any of those sports are currently not sponsored by the MAC and Northern Illinois is already a member of another conference in those sports, then it is possible Northern Illinois may want to explore the possibility of joining that conference for any or all of the non-football sports. ** Edited by VTHokie2000 at 1/12/2025, 11:14:57 AM

Keep in mind Northern Illinois has not made a final decision on what

Ya, but they have a few options. As long as we have

One of the options is joining the MWC which traditionally is a multi-bid
VTHokie2000 01/11/25 08:49 PM ET
That was not presented as an option to them. They were invited as

What is your source that it wasn't an option for Northern Illinois? All

Toledo Athletic Department. But that was several months ago. I am not privy

There are a couple, but I think they will join the Horizon for basketball.
Big12 guy 01/12/25 11:36 AM ET
The Horizon League may make sense for basketball, but does it make sense
VTHokie2000 01/12/25 03:26 PM ET
Maybe, but then you have Grand Canyon University as
Big12 guy 01/12/25 04:06 PM ET
Actually Grand Canyon U. will be technically a non-football full member.

Basketball and Olympics are tied to the hip as I understand it. I did not
