But they are already flying across country now for sports like M/W lacrosse
M/W ice hockey, and M/W water polo. So why should things be suddenly different in a Coast-to-Coast Conference World? I mean if we are just talking men's lacrosse, then there are currently only 3 schools (out of 73) west of the Mississippi River that sponsor the sport; Denver, Utah, and Air Force. If the ACC and Pac-12 merged, then Utah would be the only school in the Pacific Division. While the Atlantic Division would consist of the 5 ACC schools. Now women's lacrosse would be in better shape because the Pac-12 currently sponsors the sport (Arizona St, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, and USC).
It is worth noting that Air Force and Utah are members of the Atlantic Sun for men's lacrosse. While Denver is a member of the Big East for both lacrosse teams. If the Atlantic Sun and the Big East have no problem flying across country for a conference lacrosse game, then I don't see why the ACC should suddenly have a problem with it. Given that some of the sports have so few teams that sponsor it for whatever reason, it may be difficult (or impossible) to create regional conferences (or divisions) to try to reduce cost. So if the conferences want to create regional conferences for the non-revenue sports, then they may have to figure out ways to encourage more schools in all the regions to decide to sponsor said sport.
