FWIW every ACC team sponsors at least 1 club team for men's ice hockey

and a couple schools sponsors 2 or 3 teams. I think all the teams compete in the ACCHL (no connection with the ACC) too, so some familiarity already exists among the schools. If the ACC was interested in sponsoring the sport, then that could be used as a potential source as schools are building their foundation for their programs. It is worth noting there are a lot fewer women's ice hockey teams at the NCAA and club levels. I know VT has a women's club team who I think competes in the ACCHL too, but I don't think the same is true with the rest of the ACC teams. If the ACC wants to sponsor men's ice hockey, then it would only make sense to sponsor women's ice hockey too for Title IX purposes. Particularly since they could share the facilities to reduce cost.
