It's important to remember blue blood history

Teams like Notre Dame and Alabama had national success that goes back to the 1920's. They continued it in the 1960's and 70's, which was amplified by television. Newer blue blood teams like Ohio State had national success starting in the 1950's. They continued it in the 60's and 70's. Again, amplified and solidified by television. Media companies often lean on nostalgia for established brands because it makes marketing easier and offers more guaranteed consistent viewership. ND is part of a preferred group that has existed for a very very long time.
