Adding three schools...

...was a defensive measure to keep the ESPN deal and the ACC alive if 3 schools (FSU, Clemson, NC) left. No activation of the ESPN composition clause that kicks in if the ACC has less than 15 members. ND counts. ND has an affinity for Stanford, but the push was to help keep ND football independent by keeping the ACC/ESPN setup intact.

Im still not clear on why ND pushed hard to get Stanford and Cal in ?
Sunsetunderground 02/01/26 05:45 PM ET

TerryD 02/04/26 07:29 AM ET
So ND will have west coast football opponents when the USC series ends
Tailgate Guru 02/02/26 10:28 AM ET
No USC, ND hardly has ever played Cal
