i dont think anyone was interested in that option at that (or this) time

obviously the FSU preference (and likely Clemson) is to get invited to the big boy tables. The VT's of the world are better served by waiting things out then pushing succession. But I think the diligence has been done and in a worse case scenario (which I define as the only option left is to go in the B12) they will exercise the succession option, because it leaves open better options going forward.
