I think there COULD......
be valid reasons and it is always wise to consider the specifics. However, the specifics and details so far do not seem to match up. It is ALWAYS about the money and $100MM may not buy tomorrow what it buys today. If you look at the revenue and expense progressions college athletics has been on a steadily upward trend fed by rising media rights but, at some point it might be wise to consider if and where a ceiling might be before they have to respond at the barrel of a gun.
