Duke reported spending $82 million on athletics in 2020

Privates may not be required to report, but a surprising number self-report. That means one of the most successful private athletic programs in the country spent about same amount as Kansas State. Duke is a good sized private U sitting on a $15 billion dollar endowment (that dwarfs 99%+ of every public school), yet athletic spending isn’t even top 50. There is Notre Dame and then everybody else when it comes to private schools, and Miami is in no danger regardless.
