It's a really good question. None of the details have been released,

like the amounts, conditions, or even what they would use the money for. The consensus seems to be that they view this as they have 6 years until the next media contract, the next playoff contract, the next March madness contract, and most of the schools do not have the money for the $20M+ salary cap that are being discussed. It seems really risky, but as has been pointed out about the B12, when you have nothing, you have nothing to lose.
