How would your proposal keep the entity from violating antitrust laws?

Remember the SCOTUS ruled in NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, 468 U.S. 85 (1984), that the NCAA's television plan violated antitrust laws. The ruling opened the door for conferences and individual schools to manage their own television plan. Now that the horse has left the barn, I don't see how the horse can be returned to its stall without Congress either passing a new law or amending the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 to grant conferences/schools the same antitrust immunity that was given to the NFL. If the conferences/schools want Congress to act, then they better be prepared to give up something for the immunity. The NFL agreed to not play any regular season games on Fridays during the HS regular season and on Saturdays during the college regular season.

Keep in mind Northern Illinois has not made a final decision on what
VTHokie2000 01/11/25 07:53 PM ET
Ya, but they have a few options. As long as we have

One of the options is joining the MWC which traditionally is a multi-bid

That was not presented as an option to them. They were invited as

What is your source that it wasn't an option for Northern Illinois? All

Toledo Athletic Department. But that was several months ago. I am not privy

Given that Northern Illinois already knew it wouldn't be allowed to remain

There are a couple, but I think they will join the Horizon for basketball.

The Horizon League may make sense for basketball, but does it make sense

Maybe, but then you have Grand Canyon University as

Actually Grand Canyon U. will be technically a non-football full member.

Basketball and Olympics are tied to the hip as I understand it. I did not
