A few clarifications are in order...
1. The other 4 were not dominant throughout the season. All of them had issues and nail-biter.
2. The ultimate conundrum was that they couldn't justify leaving an SEC team out, and it would be a farce to put Georgia in over Alabama, and a farce to put Alabama in over Texas. So, they chose the farce of Alabama over FSU and used the 3rd string QB in the final game as a reason.
3. Charlotte may not have been full, but it is also an average of 460 miles away from Tallahassee and Louisville. Indianapolis is not as far as Iowa City and Ann Arbor, nor is Atlanta as far as Athens and Tuscaloosa.
