The Rose Bowl used to be appointment viewing before the BCS and CFP.

What I think the SEC and now the Big Ten, and college football in general are forgetting is that "balance of power" is sometimes a necessity. It's true in geopolitics. And it's true in college football. What made the Rose Bowl great, among many things, is that it paired the champion of the West and the champion of the Midwest. The game had intrigue. It was also something people could count on--nowadays, it's just the best two available who play in the Rose Bowl. Yes, I realize it's still a nice game. But not what it used to be. And to think, now the shining star of the West might come across the country and play in the Midwest? Just doesn't seem right. If the B1G and the SEC are going to carve up the nation and call the shots, I'd rather them just cut to the chase and do it. Otherwise, once they think they've reached their destination sometime in the distant future, they might turn around and realize they lost a lot of fans along the way.
