My answer is pure numbers
Both Rutgers and MD are in the top third of the P5 in terms of size. Both schools have more enrollment on their main campus than 14 ACC schools. And both schools have more living alumni than 16 ACC schools. They also have more than most of the SEC and B12.
The result is it gives the BIG more negotiating power for media contracts. It’s all about potential viewers for the advertisers. And for pure numbers, Rutgers and MD deliver.
