It’s tough to win when you get doubled up on draw controls which translated into 14 more shots for your opponent. One play bothered me at the end of the third quarter. VT had possession and looked to be running out the clock and avoid the draw to start the fourth quarter. They held the ball for about 40 seconds and for some unknown reason tried to force a pass in the eight with 9 seconds left. The Hokies turned it over and as a result lost possession to start the last quarter. The lack of situational awareness in that moment is maddening. Mistakes will happen, but some are avoidable. This was one of those times. It felt like the momentum shifted to UVA with that turnover. The players need to execute better but I am not letting the coaching staff off the hook. They need to know the situation and instruct the players to hold the ball and let the clock run out. I said before I thought a loss to UVA warranted a coaching change.
