No, you don't have to have those sports, but if you do, those sports

have to count in the ranking. Most every school that has football pretty much had to have volleyball (since it used to be a headcount sport) to help offset the scholarship disparity. Not all schools have baseball and not all have women's soccer. But if a school has those, they have to count. Hope that makes sense.

Doesn't volleyball get weighted more heavily than other women's sports

You are semi-correct :-). Volleyball doesn't count anymore per se BUT

So a school can have 19 good teams and 10 lousy ones
UpperQuad 12/20/25 06:42 PM ET
To be counted, each of those 5 programs must be in place?**

hokie77 12/18/25 10:22 AM ET
M&W golf have been FAR more competitive than volleyball has been **
hokiepro 12/23/25 02:01 PM ET
Probably so. Personal choice, since I'm not a golfer; would rather grow vb.**
hokie77 12/23/25 07:19 PM ET
Golf probably has more donor capacity than volleyball
