DAMN... that is a real damned shame! I had a buddy who was a framer right->
after he got out of school, before he started building houses on his own. He had a 5 gallon bucket to throw the Craftsman Measuring tapes into. You'd drop one off of a 2-3 story roof, and it would break. Or drop a load of lumber or plywood on one. When he got a full bucket of broken tapes, he's go to Sears and get a whole new batch of tapes... Same with any Craftsman tool...No questions asked!

True of a lot of brands, really just names sitting in a lawyers office...
somewhere, "intellectual property." Sports Illustrated being another. You really got to watch that, suddenly some brand name reappears? No, it's not the original company. ** Edited by `lag at 2/26/2026, 8:12:56 AM

Sadly, my 88yo FIL still believes that Craftsman is the best you can buy...
I feel sorry when I tell him they are cheap Chinese junk nowadays. I guess it's hard to let good things go...

My Craftsman Shop Vac / Blower is 35 years old. Still works great
vacuuming out the garage. Don't use it as a blower anymore since Lithium batteries came along. Probably got about 10% of my original Craftsman wrench set left mostly lost. Not a mechanic so a wrench is wrench.

My Craftsman 16 gal wet/dry vac is 47 years old and still works great.
Can't get a replacement filter anymore, but I made a new holder and use a home depot filter on it.
