I've curled for two years been to the US national championships...
The year Shuster's team won and then had a disasterous Olympics, and have never heard the term "peg" used for the handle on a rock.

4. Due to the 'rough' ice the stone makes a roar. It is not a smooth ice.

5. Good curling. I actually went to a curling clinic about 15 years ago
for fun - and they served beer. Remember that. BTW - there were 8 of us and two competitors broke bones. It is not for the meek believe it or not. Neither injury was beer-related.

curious as to how the injuries occurred....
I'm guessing sweepers got their feets runned over?

One guy slipped on the ice while serving the stone and fell on the stone
and broke two ribs. My wife slipped and caught her self and got a hairline fracture in her wrist and did significant damage to her shoulder. Good times.

This. Ice is f'in hard, no give whatsoever.... Don't stand stiff legged...
your feet will come out from under you so fast you will never know what happend. If you bend your knees a little bit you might still slip but then it's one of those slow motion forward - note the "forward" - falls that's more embarassing than painful. Yeah, no joke we had guys do that and were out of action for a fair amount of time. Forget if one guy broke something or not. ** Edited by `lag at 2/10/2026, 12:22:58 PM
