Burn them with a torch. Or cutdown and poison the stump. As
others have said, its an invasive species that some planted because of its flowering but as it grows bigger its susceptible to splitting about half way up in a stiff breeze. Plus as you found out, it a brute to keep the suckers trimmed back. I would suggest planting a redbud which flowers early in spring and is native. They are beautiful trees especially in bloowm
