Yep, this is how I figured it out
Motion activated trail cam.
They actually pulled down the feeder with parts all over the yard until I attached it with a carabiner.
I did resolve it by hanging a handkerchief from a wire at bottom of feeder soaked in deer/rabbit repellent. They stayed away and doesn't bother birds.
