My snow blower is now useless. Late Sunday afternoon when the snow was
about 8" deep I cleared my driveway. Later on that night another 2-3" of sleet and freezing rain fell. Yesterday morning I went out to clear that and the lower blade of the snow blower won't penetrate the frozen crust. It just slides along the top of the ice and the tires spin. I can use the car in and out of the driveway because what's left is only about 2" and the car breaks through the crust.
Trying to manually clear the stuff is out of the question because the driveway is over 500' long. Also the only shovel I have is a plastic snow shovel in the garage that I use to clear the walkway into the house after I blow off the driveway, I have a bunch of steel shovels in a shed but it's about 400' from the house but the crust is so tough that I don't break through when I try to walk on it so I won't risk slipping and falling to go out the the shed. (You think about stuff like that when you're 77 that you don't think about when you're 27.)
My concern is if we get more snow which is a possibility this weekend. I don't know if the new snow will give enough traction for the snow blower's wheels. It's not forecast to be above freezing here until next Tuesday. This is the first time we've ever had this combination of snow then sleet then freezing rain in the 20 years I've had the snow blower.
I could get a commercial guy to come plow it but the area in front of the garage is cobblestone and if a commercial guy's plow was to catch one and plow up a bunch more then I have a $$$$ problem.
Frustrated

Right, mower is in its own shed plus the blade doesn't cut that close. **
