Kids are probably "safer" in the suburbs, but its really hard for them to

build mental maps of their surroundings if they ride the bus to school and get shuttled to soccer practice, dance studio, swim meets, etc. Riding a bike certainly helps, but I live in NoVa and I certainly wouldn't want my kids riding around on these roads.
