I asked one of the guys who works at the store what was that about -

"Dumbest damned thing I ever saw," was his take. Then we decided that it's likely that after you've used the cubes, you can bring the cube trays back to Aldi for a refill. Nothing else makes any sense. 4 cubes for $4.99. Tough deal to pass up.
