Well we know he downplayed masks early on because he was worried about

Supply shortages for medical workers. While that’s understandable I do think he could have been better with his messaging. Of course based solely on human behavior I have no doubt that people would have hoarded the crap out of masks but still I would have rather him be more upfront. So in that case the “why” was to protect medical workers. But again I don’t listen to any one person and I don’t think others should either. I can say for a fact I never did or didn’t do anything during the pandemic solely because of what Dr. Fauci said.
