Per estimates I have seen, there are less than 20,000 Hamas fighters.....

And the population of the Gaza strip exceeds 2 million. If the general population refused to support Hamas, I have to think that the majority of Hamas would simply dissipate. To the extent there are some remaining "to the death" fanatics, would they actually kill their friends and family to make their point? Not sure they would. Even so, the general population, which likely has access to weapons, could overwhelm the diehards or let the Israelis know where they were held up. To flush out the remaining Hamas crew, there would likely be casualties but, in my opinion, not close to allowing the continuation of this war. The death to Israel crowd is strong in Gaza as is support for the October 7 terror attack. The Palestinians have accepted Hamas political control of Gaza and I have not seen any call from Gaza that Hamas should surrender. Either directly or indirectly, it certainly seems that the population supports Hamas. As such they are complicit. As for children, they are the unfortunate victims. Is it really a whole lot different than the populations of Germany and Japan? Millions of civilians.....Men, women and children were killed by the Allies. Could that have been avoided had the population not supported Hitler? In any event, the civilian casualties are tragic but it could certainly be argued that the Palestinians brought it on themselves.
