I love dogs...I just don't want to own one again.

I'm still not over the loss of our last one, so I fully admit part of the problem is me not wanting to get attached to another pet. But this particular dog that we adopted is a 10 month old that was apparently a stray and it seems to be very distrustful of males (I'm guessing it was abused at some point). So it rarely lets me get close to it. It is also not house trained, and it chews everything, including my 12 year-old daughter - her arms and legs are currently covered in bruises from the dog nipping at her. When I reprimand the dog by raising my voice and saying "no", it cowers in fear and runs away. So that has made it difficult to try to make a connection. I also knew from experience that bringing a non-house trained dog into our home was going to eventually frustrate my wife, but she wouldn't entertain that level of reasoning. However, over the past 3 weeks, I've seen her will slowly break down after cleaning up multiple inside accidents. So she has been moody at times, which makes things unpleasant. At this point, I'm just over the whole situation and would like to go back to living in a pet-free home. It has played out almost exactly as I imagined it would.
