Might depend if it was Delta-Delta or "doing business as" Delta

For those DBA airlines, they typically have a 24-minute turnaround time before they have to get going again. I don't typically see pilots waving folks off, but I don't fly a ton. Usually I have to go into the flight deck to say hi.
