The other lucky thing was the Japanese admiral who was indecisive, and decided to take his planes below deck to change ordinance. That meant when the dive bombers attacked, there was a lot of ordnance out in the open on their hanger decks. That was the turning point of the Pacific campaign. Japan couldn't replace all of those experienced pilots, not to mention they couldn't build replacement aircraft carriers and aircraft to match our production. Frankly no one could match our factory production during WWII.
