Frankly they aren't bad. Not nearly as expensive as paying for both...

...heat pump electricity, and when it gets under 40 degrees, natural gas. My highest electric bill in the summer is usually a little over $200. Worst gas plus electric bill during a cold month is pushing $400, so basically it's twice as expensive in the winter. Now if our lows stay above 40F, my average winter electric bill is around $200.
